Rain persists in Fiji with many roads closed

Fiji continues to be pounded with rain as the country braces for more wet weather this weekend.

Roads remain closed in most parts of the country due to flooding and landslides.

The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi says despite the trough of low pressure slowly moving to the east of the country, rain and southerly winds will prevail over the group.

The centre says thunderstorms are also expected and mariners have been warned of moderate to rough sea and windy conditions.

Meanwhile, the Roads Authority (FRA) Namara Road in Kadavu was closed due to a cavity on the road.

Wailase Road in Naitasiri and Naitutu Road leading to Sote Village, Waidalice School in Tailevu were also closed due to a slip.

Other roads affected due to flooding include Navua's Nabukavesi Rd, in Naqali the crossings at Waidradra on Vatulili Rd, Waisa on Navulokani Rd, Waimale on Navutu Rd, Waiwatu on Navulokani Rd, Waitaqolo on Waitaqolo Rd and Nasi Crossing on Wailase Rd, Muaniweni Flat on Savu Rd, Waibau Bridge while the Nacokaika Crossing on Wailase Rd and Waikete Rd and Waila Feeder Rd in Rewa are restricted to light vehicles.

In Korovou, the Colata Cocoa Road, Ovalau Circular, Wairua Settlement, Deepwater and Naitutu Soteall closed to traffic.

In Rakiraki, the crossings at Nasau, Nauria, Vanuakula, Nailuva and Nakorovou are also closed.
