CNMI borders to open slightly as mass COVID-19 testing underway

With the Northern Marianas starting mass testing, the islands' borders are expected to reopen with United Airlines planning to resume its Guam-Saipan flights on Saturday.

The carrier will resume its thrice-a-week Guam-Saipan service on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Mass Covid-19 testing in the CNMI had so far yielded 224 samples through a drive-thru setup at the Saipan International Airport and all had been negative.

The community-based testing started on Monday with 71 people, which included first responders and medical workers.

Testing was expanded to the general public on Tuesday and a total of 153 tests were carried out.

No data for the last two days was available.

There are no active Covid-19 cases in the CNMI but there have been 14 postive cases over the past month, including two deaths.
