Tonga police arrest 9 on drug charges

Nine people have been arrested in Tonga as part of an ongoing police operation targeting drug suppliers and dealers.

Three people were arrested on Monday and six last week, with police seizing about four grams of methamphetamine and 145 grams of cannabis.

Acting deputy police commissioner Tevita Vailea said the nine had been charged and would remain in custody until they appeared in court.

Deputy Commissioner Tevita Vailea said police were committed to disrupting and detecting the supply of drugs and holding those responsible to account.

He encouraged anyone who might have any information relating to drug-related offending to contact police.
