Donald Yamasombi, who is chief of police operations, said there were one or two incidents but generally PNG celebrated Christmas peacefully.

From the National Crime Summary for the past week, the crime rate had dropped by half compared to previous years.

He called it a great achievement and a positive step forward for PNG.

Mr Yamasombi said 230 crimes were reported in the Christmas period throughout the country and 87 arrests made, many of which were alcohol-related incidents.
