Solomon Islands' Minister for Infrastructure Development Manasseh Maelanga has been appointed deputy prime minister.

The appointment followed what the government calls "thorough consultations" between the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and his Cabinet.
Mr Maelanga has expressed his commitment to work with and support the Prime Minister as his deputy.
