Papua New Guinea's ruling PANGU party is continuing its steady growth under prime minister James Marape with more MPs joining its ranks in recent days.

One of PNG's oldest parties, PANGU has now outgrown the former ruling People's National Congress party of ousted former prime minister Peter O Neill.

Earlier this month, Mr Marape assumed the leadership of PANGU further distancing himself from his former PNC colleagues.

Last week, the vice minister for treasury Win Bakri left the PNC for PANGU.

He was joined by Wewak MP Kevin Isifu, who left his People's Progress Party.

More MPs are expected to join the ruling party in the coming weeks.
