Call for more transparency in the Northern Marianas

Lawmakers in the Northern Marianas say the government has to be more transparent as the territory continues to reel from a financial crisis due to dwindling revenue.

Minority representatives want to know why government revenues have plummeted in the current fiscal year, leading to austerity measures.

Senator Paul Manglona questioned why Imperial Pacific International paid only $US41,000 in casino business tax after paying $US44 million the previous year.

The representatives said the Torres administration has failed to provide the House and the people a full and detailed accounting of the current fiscal state.
