A drinking ban has been imposed on the Papuan regency of Mimika, ahead of Indonesia's presidential elections next week.

The Jakarta Post reports that alcohol sales at stores and venues across Mimika were banned on Wednesday.

The ban will also restrict the opening hours of nightclubs and targets Easter celebrations this weekend as well.

Indonesia's elections will see 193 million people go to the polls in a one-day vote next Wednesday.
