India to help PNG switch to renewables

India is looking at the feasibility of solar energy projects in Papua New Guinea, providing the country with soft loans to pay for them.

The Indian High Commissioner Vijay Kumar said both governments had also agreed for assistance to go to a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in PNG.

There are also plans for traditional Indian wellness centres to be attached to existing PNG healthcare facilities.

The Post Courier reported the High Commissioner also announced that "India will assist Port Moresby General Hospital in its efforts to set up a cancer centre, and again provide anti-retro viral drugs for treatment of HIV/AIDS patients in PNG".
