Otemai Liu Ausage had joined a recent protest over land rights.

Soon after, he received a letter from the chief executive of the community development ministry, Afamasaga Fa'auiga Palepua-Mulitalo, firing him with immediate effect.

In it, Afamasaga questioned Otemai's commitment to the government's agenda, and accused him of negligence.

Otemai told the Samoa Observer that he was considering pursuing legal action.
