A Fijian man has died in a Cook Islands hospital from injuries he sustained in a motorbike crash.

Thomas Riley, who was 25-years old, was returning from a concert when the crash happened on Wednesday.

His employer, the Rarotongan Beach Resort, announced his death on social media.

'Thomas was a happy, cheerful, loyal and intelligent young man who was a joy to be around," the message said.

"Thomas was an absolute star of our restaurant and bar team. He loved his work, his guests, his friends and colleagues and, most of all, his loved ones and family."

A family member said Mr Riley left Fiji to work in the Cook Islands in 2017.

A give-a-little-page has been set up to help his family return his body to Fiji next week.
