Six hundred and eighty-five people on the Vanuatu island of Ambrym have been ordered to relocate to safe zones as the island's volcano continues to erupt.

Earthquakes triggered by the eruption have ruptured the ground, including one that opened in the middle of a village.

The national disaster office says there are so far no plans to relocate people to other islands.
