Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi said his government has worked hard at ensuring improved internet access with the introduction of Tui Samoa Cable and has also recently signed on to the Manatua Cable.

He said this should allow doctors to perform operations while being guided over the internet.

Tuila'epa said the Ministry of Health has signed agreements with Indian health service providers with the expertise to perform operations and local doctors will receive training.

Samoa currently spends over $US2.3 million a year on sending patients to New Zealand for treatment they can't receive on island.
