Alcohol sales banned in PNG's Madang shops

The Papua New Guinea province of Madang has banned the sale of alcohol in shops for four years.

The governor, Peter Yama, said the provincial executive council made the decision last week because of the negative effects alcohol was causing.

Alcohol can still be sold in clubs and hotels.

Mr Yama said all liquor licences were cancelled on Christmas Day.
