A popular Chinese travel website has ranked Saipan as the most popular Pacific island destination for Chinese tourists.

The Northern Marianas island is almost twice as popular as the runner-up, Palau.
The list on the Chinese travel platform, Mafengwo, is based on the sale of various tourism products and user behaviour such as searches, travel notes and surveys.
Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Christopher Concepcion said Mafengwo was one of the biggest online platforms for independent travelers in China.
Rounding out the top five destinations on the list were Palau, Fiji, Tahiti, and Guam.
