The Pacific Community says rehabilitation work on 30 kilometres of Fiji cane access roads was officially opened yesterday.

The SPC said the roads would benefit more than 90 cane-farming households in the area, thanks to a partnership between it, the European Union and the Fiji government.

The Bulivou road rehabilitation work is being funded by the EU under its Sugar Protocol programme.

It is being done in conjunction with a plan to reforest the foothills of the sugar belt.

This four-year project, also funded by the EU, is focused on watershed management and is designed to improve livelihoods and empower people and communities through reforestation.
