Water shipments to Penrhyn have finished after recent rainfall ended a three-month dry spell in the northern Cook Islands.

Penrhyn's executive officer Tukairangi Joseph Taia said the three-weekly, 100,000 litre shipments that the island had been receiving since early July were no longer needed.

The Cook Islands News reported Mr Taia said there had been consistent rainfall recently and that the island's water capacity was now high.

The people of Penrhyn are hoping to improve water conservation practices for the future.
