Fiji's police force has been ordered to pay compensation for violating the rights of a 10-year-old boy.

The child was arrested without a warrant last year and taken to the Nausori police station, where he was assaulted.

Police officers refused to let his mother accompany him.

The Suva High Court ordered the police and the attorney general's office to pay nearly US$12-thousand as compensation.
