A woman from China who arrived In the Northern Marianas as a tourist and later gave birth in the US territory has been sentenced to two days of time served.
Lichan Lu entered the CNMI in 2015 and a court found her real intent was to give birth there.
US law gives citizenship to people born in the territory.
The United States District Court for the CNMI sentenced Lichan Lu to "time served" after she signed a plea deal with the US government.
She had pleaded guilty to charges of improper entry into the US by false statement.
