A former spokesman for Taiwan's opposition Kuomintang has drowned while on holiday in the Cook Islands.
The Central News Agency reported Yang Wei-Chung was trying to rescue his 11 year old daughter who'd fallen overboard while on a boat tour.
The 47 year old was a member of a Cabinet-level committee looking into ill-gotten party assets.
Officials from Taiwan's representative office in New Zealand are reported to be offering assistance to the family.
