Authorities on Hawaii's southern islands are cleaning up after Hurricane Lane.

The hurricane fizzled into a tropical storm on Saturday, sparing much of the state, but it still managed to lash the Big Island and Maui with more than a metre of rain in some places.

The two islands have seen extensive flooding and landslides.

Several roads remain closed.

Officials say services should return to normal in the coming days.

The National Weather Service says there are now two new disturbances in the eastern Pacific, likely to become cyclones.
