The Kiribati Institute of Technology has been accredited as a higher education provider by the Pacific Board for Educational Quality.
This accreditation is an elevation of the institute's status as a provisionally accredited institution, and makes it one of the first education providers to receive the accreditation in small Pacific nation.
Lack of access to accreditation and quality assurance mechanisms has been a long standing challenge for small Pacific nations, and is an issue that the Pacific Community is trying to solve.
The development of the regionally recognized Pacific Qualification Framework and the Pacific Quality Assurance Framework now provide smaller countries with access to accreditation.
This gives them quality assurance mechanisms that are recognized and practised internationally.
