Police said relatives of the man from Belaga Village in Central Province claimed he died as a result of sorcery.

Tensions developed, but police say mediation involving village chiefs, elders and Melanesian Brothers, along with the families of the dead man and the alleged sorcerer, managed to resolve the matter.

The provincial police commander, Superintendent Patricia Leta, says this sort of mediation is the right way to stop crime in the communities.
