CNMI has record number of voters for 2018 polls

The number of people registering to vote in the Northern Marianas has eclipsed the record of almost 18-thousand voters in 2016.

A registration campaign is underway and the Commonwealth Election Commission says the number of those registering is expected to climb before the last day of voter registration on September 7.

The commission says 18,004 individuals have registered as voters in the Commonwealth so far.

Saipan currently has 14,354 registered voters, Tinian has 1,707, and Rota 1,943.

17,930 voters registered for the November 2016 general election.

The commission is conducting outreach voter registration drives at 14 different locations and events on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
