The Fiji government has extended the deadline for using debit cards they have provided to help reconstruct after major floods earlier this year.

The Homes-Care cards can be used for another month up until the end of August.

The government said the deadline had been extended because approved building materials had been unavailable and there had been requests for an extension from people fearing they may lose out.

An estimated 150,000 people were affected by Cyclones Josie and Keni in April this year.

People earning less than $US23,800 a year and whose homes were totally destroyed or suffered severe damage, qualified for the funds.
