Reports from Fiji say the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation and its chief executive are suing the Fiji Labour Party for defamation.

The broadcaster reported the case, which centres on a posting by the party on social media, was called at the High Court in Suva today.

FBC reported the statement of claims filed by the corporation's lawyer said the post was designed to cause damage to the plaintiffs and they had suffered grave damage to their reputation.

FBC's lawyer told the court the CEO Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum wanted to amend his claims alleging the Labour Party had made further defamatory claims on its Facebook page.
