8:07 am on 30 May 2018

Fiji is in talks with a university in Australia to recruit experienced doctors.

The Fiji Times reports a recruitment campaign is underway to counter the country's doctor shortage.

The Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Bernadette Welch, told the newspaper an international recruiter was assisting in the search for doctors.

She says the government's also speaking to an Australian University which has sent doctors in the past.

She says the doctors are masters students and quite experienced.

The Times reports Fiji is short of 300 doctors.
