Fiji young people to get meningococcal vaccine

There are hopes that soon every child and adolescent in Fiji could be protected against meningococcal C following a recent outbreak of the disease.

The Fiji Government, with UNICEF and the World Health Organisation launched a country-wide vaccine programme this week.

It aims to vaccinate up to 325,000 children and adolescents against meningococcal C disease.

In late March, declared an outbreak of meningococcal disease.

In the first four months of the year there have been dozens of confirmed and suspected cases with four people dying from the disease.
