New Caledonia firefighters strike causes further flight disruptions

3:21 pm on 28 April 2018

There have been more minor disruptions to New Caledonia's domestic air services amid an unlimited strike by some firefighters.

One return flight each has today been cancelled from Noumea's Magenta airport to Mare, Lifou, Ouvea and the Isle of Pines.

The union said the strike had been called because nothing had been done after three of its members at the territory's international airport were harassed despite an agreement to take action.

The strike has had no impact on international flights as fewer than 20 percent of firefighters at Noumea's Tontouta airport joined the action.
