Communities there were devastated by flash floods, causing sink holes and mudslides last week, prompting the Red Cross to call for donations.

On Monday, the company Hawai'i Life, which is headquartered in Kaua'i, said it had collected over $US37,000 through its charitable fund from all over the state.

Hawaii Life spokesperson Meghan Thibault said the company was using its commercial network to fundraise.

"All we have been doing really is trying to leverage our networks of agents across the state and clients across the state and beyond to help with the fund raising," Ms Thibault said.

"Then we are just channelling those funds to organisations who are doing the heavy lifting right there. So as far as I know the Red Cross and Malama Kaua'i are the chief organisations who are helping out."
