A long time Cook Islands resident has been awarded one of six honorary lifetime memberships of the Commonwealth Games Federation.

John Tierney served many years as an executive board member of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) which he said enabled him to contribute to the global expansion, professionalism and influence of sport in the Pacific.
The Cook Islands businessman and community leader said the CGF was to be congratulated in developing the vision of building peaceful, sustainable and prosperous communities globally, by inspiring athletes to drive the ambition of all citizens through sport.
Mr Tierney and his wife Anne have lived in the Cook Islands for 51 years and been leaders in the sport of sailing.
