Seven lists have been registered in French Polynesia for next month's territorial election.

The French High Commission has three days to check the lists.

Each has 73 names and the lists must alternate male and female candidates.

The lists include the three parties that are now represented in the 57-member assembly.

They are the Tahoeraa Huiraatira, the Tapura Huiraatira and the Tavini Huiraatira.

Others include Te Ora Api o Porinetia, which is led by the assembly president and the Polynesian Republican Union.

A Ti'a Mai and E Reo Manahune are also new lists and both have claimed to be free of corruption convicts.

The first round of voting is scheduled for the 22 April.
