La Depeche de Tahiti printing shop closes

2:29 pm on 27 March 2018

The printing shop of French Polynesia's La Depeche newspaper will close just days after being put into receivership.

Tahiti-infos reported this followed a court decision in Papeete and ends any hope of striking workers to be able to resume their jobs.

The liquidation follows prolonged financial difficulties for the publication which is the only local daily newspaper for sale.

The report said the paper will now be printed at another company called Pacific Press.

Workers launched a strike last month after being repeatedly paid late.

Four years ago, the territory's oldest newspaper Nouvelles de Tahiti ceased publication after 57 years.
