The BRIDGE School Partnership Programme is part of Canberra's push to reconnect with Pacific nations and extends the scheme that has been operating between Australia and Asia for the past ten years.

The Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, said the relationships between the schools, which will include schools with a special needs focus, was a practical one.

"Needs to be one where schools feel they can have a practical people to people connection. Of course people to people links in the Pacific are one of our three policy priorities for engagement in the region. And one of the things - building better relationships with schools in the region is a very very good start."

Australia's Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Concetta Fierravanti-Wells said the scheme is essentially about capacity building.
