Another deadly crocodile attack in Manus

6:50 am on 21 March 2018

A seasoned crocodile hunter and former MP in Papua New Guinea's Manus province says croc attacks are a persistent problem.

Ron Knight said a man diving for turtle off Manus' Lou Island last week was dragged under by a large crocodile and drowned.

He said he suspects it's the same crocodile behind at least one other death in recent years.

Mr Knight said that thriving in the warm equatorial waters around Manus, crocodiles are something local communities have to live with.

"Our people have to paddle up rivers to go and attend to get sago or go to their gardens," he said.

"That is when they get taken by the crocs."

"You have to paddle in the middle of the river cos if you paddle by the side of the river, then you disturb one of them and thats when they smash the canoe when you jump in the water."
