The Okeanos Marianas double-hulled Polynesian canoe has returned from a four-day voyage to the CNMI's Northern Islands that could serve as a preview of the vaka's future purpose.

It could help out with the future resettlement of unpopulated Northern Islands like Anatahan.

The island has been abandoned since the CNMI government evacuated the island due to volcanic activity in 1990.

During its expedition to Sarigan and Anatahan, the canoe also collected nearly 600 lbs of trash and 50 abandoned buoys and transported it all back to Saipan.
