Fiji police chief injured in motorbike incident

Reports from Fiji say the Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho was admitted to the capital's hospital at the weekend after he was involved in a road accident on Saturday.

Fiji Village reports Mr Qiliho was riding a police motorcycle through Central Street in Suva City.

A Police spokesperson told the website an oncoming taxi swerved suddenly into the police chief's lane and he also swerved to avoid an accident, veering off the road.

The police confirmed Mr Qiliho sustained injuries and Fiji Village reports he was admitted to hospital in a stable condition.

The police say the taxi driver was interviewed and released and investigations are continuing.
