24 serious sexual crimes reported in Fiji in January

There were 22 people charged with serious sexual crimes in Fiji in January, relating to 24 separate incidents.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says they have filed 16 rape and five sexual assault charges related to the incidents, as well as an abduction with the intent to have carnal knowledge charge.

The office says 10 of the victims were under the age of 18 while one incident involved the alleged gang rape of a 50 year old woman by five men during a home invasion.

Two men were also charged with marital rape.
