Another senior expat resigns from Fiji govt

Another expatriate senior civil servant has resigned in Fiji.

The Public Service Commission says it's accepted the resignation of Philip Davies who was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health.

In a statement the commission said Mr Davies was leaving to spend time with his family in the United Kingdom.

The commission says the resignation takes effect immediately at Mr Davies' request.

Mr Davies' departure is the latest in a string of resignations of mostly expatriate permanent secretaries and government agency chiefs.

The Permanent Secretary for Agriculture Jitendra Singh resigned at the end of last year after taking on the job in early 2016.

In November the CEO of the Land Transport Authority Carmine Piantedosi resigned and left for Australia, the Public Service Commission again citing personal and family reasons.

The Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport Paul Bayly resigned at the end of October after taking up office in March the previous year.

John Hutchinson resigned in June from the Fiji Roads Authority after a year in the job.

Ewan Perrin was appointed as Permanent Secretary for Communications and Information Technology in January 2016 but left barely five months later.

Susan Kiran, the Cabinet Secretary, has been appointed to take over from Mr Davies in an acting capacity and she'll continue to hold her existing role.
