A local resident, who was a passenger, is quoted by Samoa News saying the laser was green and extremely bright and very alarming.

The traveller said he raised the issue in the hope of someone stepping forward to provide information and assist authorities in identifying the culprit.

Under US law, pointing a laser at an aircraft can be punished by up to five years in prison and a maximum $US250,000 fine.

The last known laser incident involving a Hawaiian Airlines flight was in 2011.
