Manhunt for dangerous escapees continues in PNG

Police in Papua New Guinea are still searching for four dangerous criminal who escaped the Waigani committal cells before Christmas.

The Post Courier reported the men were part of a group of six who managed to force their way out of their holding cells while the guard was reduced.

Two of the men were recaptured almost immediately but the rest remain on the run in the capital Port Moresby.

The metropolitan commander for the National Capital District Perou N'Dranou said the men were part of a group of prisoners from Bomana jail who were awaiting court appearances.

Two of the four escapees were facing murder charges and the other two are on multiple charges of armed robbery, illegal use of firearms, theft and breaking and entering.
