Arrest in American Samoa over shooting

6:32 am on 28 December 2017

A man has been arrested in American Samoa suspected of being involved in shooting at two police officers last week.

The Police Commissioner Le'i Sonny Thompson said Thomas Siaumau made his first appearance in the district court yesterday.

Le'i said the police were looking for another person in relation to the incident at the Tony Solaita baseball field in Tafuna.

The officers had gone there in response to a call from security guards who had said they had heard cherry bombs being exploded at the field.

One officer got out of the patrol car to have a look around when gun shots were allegedly fired at the vehicle breaking the windshield and piercing the front passenger seat.
