United Airlines has confirmed that it will launch flights to French Polynesia at the end of October.
The airline said it would fly from San Francisco to Tahiti three times a week using Boeing 787 aircraft.
The announcement comes just weeks after the low-cost carrier French Blue confirmed its launch of San Francisco to Tahiti flights in May.
This has already led to a price war with Air Tahiti Nui, which lowered its fares to Paris via Los Angeles.
French Blue in return cut its lowest fare further.
