The fire service in New Caledonia has condemned the theft and destruction of one of its vehicles.

In a statement, it said the vehicle was taken from its base in Bourail during the night and set light in the hills near Boregao.
The blaze prompted a call-out of fire-fighters.
The statement said this act diminished the fire service's ability to assist the people of Bourail.
