Globules of oil have been washing ashore in New Caledonia prompting authorities to issue a marine pollution alert.

A week ago, three kilogrammes of oil residue flowed on to land in Lifou in the Loyalty Islands.
Since then small globules have also been found on the shores of Ouvea and in both Yate and Houailou on the main island's east coast.
The source of the pollution is unknown.
An investigation has been launched amid speculation the oil might have come from the stranded Kea Trader container ship which broke up on the Durand Reef about 150 south-east of Lifou earlier this month.
The public has been advised not to touch the substance but to call police.
A fishing and swimming ban has been declared off parts of Lifou island where there are also reports of dead fish and snakes being washed ashore.
