A heavy rain alert remains in force for the rest of Fiji.

It said a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain is moving slowly over Fiji and is expected to affect the country until Friday.

Periods of heavy rain and squally thunderstorms should be expected in the northern and eastern half of Viti Levu.

Elsewhere, occasional rain and thunderstorms with isolated heavy rain falls are likely.

Localised heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding, and people living in low lying areas and next to rivers and streams are asked to be prepared.
