Fiji held the COP23 presidency at the Bonn meeting which concluded last week.

The government allocated $US16,000 for a welcome event at Suva's Albert Park.

SODELPA leader, Sitiveni Rabuka, said the cost was uncalled for, particularly when he said there were still thousands of children learning in tent

classrooms and some families in temporary housing, almost two years after the country was devastated by Cyclone Winston.

Mr Rabuka says the welcome is also premature, given there is much more work to be done by the Presidency of COP23 over the next year until the handover to the next Presidency at in November 2018.
