Patrick Rey, who worked on Moorea, had been entrusted with managing her finances after her husband's death.

The court found that he used much of it for his personal benefit.

The court ordered Rey to serve 18 months of his sentence behind bars and to repay the victim more than $US500,000.

Rey has been in detention since last month when he was implicated in alleged drug trafficking.

According to media reports, he was suspected of having sponsored a person arrested for trying to smuggle methamphetamine into Tahiti.
