The prosecution wanted Patrick Rey to be given a three-year jail sentence of which 18 months are to be suspended.

The woman had entrusted him with her fortune which he mostly used for his personal benefit.

Earlier this month, Mr Rey was detained for alleged drug trafficking.

According to media reports, he was suspected of having sponsored one of the people recently arrested for trying to smuggle methamphetamine into Tahiti.

Reports said Mr Rey's partner had also been charged in connection with the case but released from detention.
