New Caledonia's main anti-independence party has again called for unity as next year's independence referendum nears.
Caledonia Together leaders say this is needed to maintain the territory within France and to keep peace.
The party met ahead of this weekend's French Senate election in which New Caledonia's electoral college will choose its two members for the Paris seats.
Caledonia Together nominated Gérard Poadja to stand with an incumbent Senator Pierre Frogier on a joint ticket.
The party again criticised a rival anti-independence faction for continuing to block the election of a government.
However, it noted the side's unity earlier in the year, considering it as a test ahead of next year's referendum.
